Christmas Party Outfit Ideas for 2012

Christmas is fast approaching, well, in a few months anyway, but that doesn’t mean we can’t think about some party outfit ideas. The challenge of what to wear to the office party, or to event with friends and family is always a tough one, from the risk that you might turn up with the same outfit as someone else, through to the danger of being too formal or too casual compared to everyone else. The following list consequently represents some general ideas for how to approach the Christmas party season, and ranges from oriental dresses to variations on this year’s print and florals trends, as well as many more.

Oriental Dress

Wearing an Oriental dress is a good way to participate in print trends, while still being distinctive in your own right. A two piece dress with a patterned top, fitted waistband, and a black chiffon skirt with a concealed zip fastening can be worn with a vintage necklace, black high heels, and a gold leather clutch.

Bodice Dress

Ideal for more formal occasions, a bodice dress can be worn with a higher neckline and a knee length length. A waist defining belt and long, cut out sleeves can also be mixed with bright colours.

Black Halter Dress

An elegant option, and a variation on the ever reliable little black dress, a black halter dress is an excellent vintage option, and can be worn in satin, with neutral prints, and as an A line.

Colourblocked Satin Dress

Colourblocking has been a significant trend this year, as has satin. A strapless, colourblocked dress, which can also be worn off the shoulder, is a simple and elegant choice.

Retro

If you want a more retro look for your office party, then it’s worth considering a collared top with denier tights, a buckled belt, pendants, vintage clip earrings, faux fur, and neutral shades all round.

Florals

Another big trend this year, florals might seem summery, but can be worn as a lighter touch for the Christmas party season. A floral pencil skirt can be paired with a pastel blazer jacket, a neutral top, vintage white handbags and sandals. Weather permitting, of course.

Cropped Sweater and Skirt

An alternative to the party dress, a cropped sweater in a bright colour can be worn with a chiffon skirt, as well as with leather ankle boots and a collared necklace for a comfortable but still striking look.

Simple LBD

Reliable for a reason, the little black dress can be made to stand out through a sequin swing design, a midi dress, suede court shoes, and a few pieces of understated jewellery, typically represented by a necklace and bracelets.

Brighter Prints

If you want to make a colourful impact on the Christmas party season, then it’s worth considering printed dresses with motif bracelets, and clutch, as well as colourful boots and tights.

Luxe

For an elegant look, consider experimenting with nude colours through a short dress or shift with a scooped neckline and a bow front, as well as a clutch bag and understated hair bows.
